The Bigpop Story

2021 has already been a huge year for Bigpop, and we’d be lying if we said it hasn’t made us a bit sentimental. So, we thought we’d put our nostalgia to good use and look back at how we got here today.

Bigpop found its start in 2004, when our Managing Directors Chris and Joost first hit it off and started working together. Since then we’ve built our team, worked with some of New Zealand’s most talented artists, and developed meaningful relationships with our clients across film, advertising, and music.

We love to celebrate our successes, but it’s the process itself that’s kept us coming back for nearly two decades. Our team has grown, and the way we listen to music has changed, but the love for what we do, and how we do it, is constant.

Community has always been at the heart of what we do. We’ve never been obsessed with numbers and analytics, but we do obsess over people. Music brings us together, which is why we want our artists to have a solid community behind them. Music listeners are more than figures and statistics, and we pride ourselves on our ability to connect with the local music community at the ground level.

We began as a small music and production company, but our love for the art has organically pushed us towards the formation of our very own Bigpop whānau. We’re now working with dozens of artists and partners that we love to support throughout the three pillars of our business: Bigpop Studios, Bigpop Publishing, and Bigpop Records.

As much as we hate to admit it, we’re pretty proud of ourselves - and we’re just as excited to keep working alongside Aotearoa’s best in the years to come, including those we haven’t met yet.
